His influences are truly eclectic but he managed (and still manages) to somehow blend them all into a coherent whole.
This album is obviously retrospective but the music stands the test of time,I think, and doesn't feel dated (at least not in spirit...I expect instrumentation has changed a lot in the interim)...a testament to his foresight,then (or his karma).
